SAULT STE MARIE, MI — The city of Sault Ste Marie, in particular, the gymnasium at Sault Area High School, hosted more than 350 young wrestlers from all over the state this past Sunday. Five mats were in use all day; four in the gym and one in the cafeteria. The gym was packed with spectators and they were witness to some outstanding wrestling matches.

Two tournaments took place at once on Sunday: the NEMWA Regionals and the Bridge Brawl MYWAY tourney.

In the Sault City Bridge Brawl MYWAY tournament, the Sault City Youth wrestlers were crowned the team champion of their only hosted event of the year. The Sault team scored 598 points while their closest competitor, Gaylord, finished in second place with 337 points. Here are the Bridge Brawl results:

In the NEMWA Regionals youth tournament, Sault City Youth Wrestling placed 6th out of 28 teams while punching 11 wrestlers through to the NEMWA State Finals next weekend.
