Sault, ON Police Service seizes almost half million in drugs, women charged

On January 29, 2022, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit and the Drug Enforcement Unit charged 25-year-old Destiny Nieminen with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Bainbridge Street. Upon entering and searching the residence, officers located approximately 975 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, approximately two kilograms of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine and approximately 445 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl.

The estimated street value of the seizure is $466,300. This is the largest seizure in the history of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The accused was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 28, 2022.

“First, I want to applaud the work by our officers, this seizure will save lives,” says Chief Hugh Stevenson. “A seizure of this magnitude is a proud day for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. We remain committed to investigating the people profiting from the sale and distribution of narcotics and assist the Crown’s office to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
