Rex Eugene Shanafelt

Rex Eugene Shanafelt, 76, of Barbeau, Michigan passed away at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on November 10, 2021.

Rex was born on September 5, 1945, to the late Evart Clinton and Willedeana Marvel (Leyder) Shanafelt. Rex was a 1963 graduate of Grand Ledge High School.

Rex was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Navy with the Seabees. He was a member of the VFW, and there he enjoyed volunteering as a bingo caller and attending many whitefish dinners.

Rex retired from General Motors in Lansing, Michigan. Following his retirement, he moved to Barbeau, and spoke fondly of the many close friends he had made over the years. Rex attended the Donaldson Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie for many years, and always looked forward to Sunday school bible study. Rex truly enjoyed fellowship with his church family.

His many hobbies included hunting, golfing on leagues for many years, fishing, studying his bible, and cooking. Rex enjoyed spending time with his sister Joan and her husband Don, and enjoyed attending the annual blueberry festival in Paradise with his niece, Brenda.

Rex is survived by his sister Joan (Don) Ruder of Hasting, Michigan, several nieces and nephews, and special cousin Bonnie Knapp.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, sister Constance Lee Thorn, and one niece.
