Devotion: Hide-N-Seek

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

As a child, my favorite game was Hide-N-Seek. I’m not sure if it was the thrill of hiding and not being found that I loved most, or if it was seeking the person that had hidden that was more exciting. Many of us loved that childhood game, but as we grew older, we moved on to more appropriate games and activities for our age, or did we? In a sense, don’t we play Hide-N-Seek with our Spiritual lives? When things are going great, don’t we hide from Jesus? People tend to seek Him when they need His help and hide from Him the rest of the time. As human beings, we tend to hide behind many things, but the biggest mistake we tend to make is not including Jesus, in our daily lives. Don’t just seek Him out in your struggles, only to forget Him when things improve. That’s like putting something back on a shelf or in a cupboard when you no longer need it, only to be retrieved again when you do. Seek Him, and immerse yourselves in His Word. Walk daily with Him, gain Biblical knowledge, and make Jesus the focal point in your lives. “Seek and you will find.” Playing Hide-N-Seek, with your Spiritual lives, is not a game to be played. Deciding to love and follow Him is the most important decision You will ever make.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that none of us will play games when it comes to our spiritual lives. I pray that Your graciousness and love for us will lead all to seek You. Remind us daily, that by reading and studying Your Word, we  begin our spiritual journey, and acquire the knowledge we need, so that we may have eternal life with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
