Obituary For William Alan Luepnitz

William “Bill” Alan Luepnitz, age 80, of Moran, Michigan, passed away suddenly on April 10, 2025, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born on July 12, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, to Fred and Patricia (Mailhot) Luepnitz.

In 1950, at the age of six, Bill moved with his family back to the Luepnitz family farm at Brevort Lake where the Luepnitz family had settled in 1882. They cleared and cultivated the property for crops and livestock. Bill worked on the farm and was in 4-H as a child. He also loved tractors and cars. He enjoyed both repairing and collecting them. In his late twenties, Bill married Mary LaVake and the two of them traveled the country, mostly in the southern states where he was employed doing various jobs including roofing, siding, maintenance and painting. He always worked hard and prided himself on paying his own way through life. Approximately twenty years later, in 1992, Bill returned to Moran after his wife Mary had passed to be near family. He did lawn maintenance and odd jobs for the summer cottages around Brevort Lake. He remained in the area until his recent death.

Bill is survived by his brothers, Carl (Lori) Luepnitz and Fred (Debbie) Luepnitz; sisters, Mary Miller and Lois Carr; and many nieces, nephews, and his dear friend and caregiver, Kelly Grogan.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Fred and Patricia; brothers, Jack Luepnitz, Ken Luepnitz, Art Luepnitz, Frank Luepnitz and Dale Luepnitz; and sister, Ruth Houdek.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on May 24, 2025, at Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, W1934, Church Rd, Moran, MI 49760, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Moran, Michigan.
