Wendy Sue Bjunes, age 70, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away on July 9, 2023, at Marquette General Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Wendy was born on January 22, 1953, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Frank and Dorothy (Steele) Westover. She graduated with the Sault High Class of 1971. On June 26, 1971, Wendy married John Bjunes at the Pickford Presbyterian Church. Wendy worked all over Sault Ste. Marie as a Chef, and helped launch the Buffet at Kewadin Casino.
Wendy enjoyed many hobbies: sewing, cooking, baking, spending time at the family cabin, and picking blueberries. She was an avid reader. Wendy loved to sing: she was in the choir at her church – Donaldson Presbyterian – and helped with the youth group there. She volunteered at the Bruce Township School as the Cheerleading Coach, and made the uniforms for the kids by hand. She loved attending all of the sporting events for her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wendy is survived by her husband: John Bjunes; her children: John (Ruth) Bjunes of Pickford, MI; Angie Bjunes of Barbeau, MI; Charlie (Jess) Bjunes of Pickford, MI; Anna (Justin) Wilson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and Jenny (Preston) Haines of Dafter, MI; ten grandchildren: Alicia, Jon, Dylan, Abbey, Henrik, Ela, Hailey, Evan, Emma, and Owen; as well her three great-grandchildren: Jaymie, Micah, and Jordan. She is also survived by her sisters: Janet Szczepanski of Colorado; Linda Westover of Texas; and Laurie Payment of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; a sister-in-law: Heike Westover; and a brother-in-law: Carl Dosenbach.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather: Charles “Andy” Anderson; and five siblings: Judy Herman, Ricky Westover, Ronnie Westover, Joan Henderson, and Patsy Dosenbach.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Donaldson Presbyterian Church. Friends may gather at the church starting at 5:00 PM. A meal will follow in the downstairs of the church.
