Vernus Ann Kelly, age 93, of Sault Ste, Marie, MI passed away on December 16, 2022, at My Michigan Medical Center – Sault.

Vernus was born on June 1, 1929, in Pickford, MI to the late William and Elsie Ann (Stewart) Wonnacott. She was a graduate of Pickford High School with the class of 1946. On July 14, 1948, she married Donald James Kelly in Pickford, MI. She was a long time employee of Michigan Bell. Vernus was a member of the Telephone Pioneer Club, K.I.T. Club, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed working on Jigsaw, words puzzles, and poetry writer. Vernus had a great sense of humor and had an enthusiasm for life's adventures. Vernus delighted all with her piano playing, singing, and other natural musical talents. Vernus is survived by her children: Michael (Doris) Kelly of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Christine (John) Newton of Brewster, NY, Candace (Alan) Pike of Brimley, MI, and Cathy (James) DePlonty of Ludington, MI: grandchildren: Kim Kelly, Jonathan Kelly, John Newton, Kelly Newton, Joseph Ferraro, Janelle Pike, Kaitlyn DePlonty, Jenna Petersen, Madison DePlonty, James Newton, Bridget Akre, Andrew Pike, Arlon Groforth and Julia Campbell; 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law: Patti Kelly of Marinette, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

Vernus was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son: Donald "String" Kelly; and all of her siblings: Earl (Virginia) Wonnacott, Emily (Harry) Hamilton, Levi (Glady) Wonnacott, Merle (George) Wilson, Calvin (Maxine) Wonnacott, Darlene (Dareld) Jarvie, and Wayne “Mickey” (Arlene) Wonnacott.

A private family viewing was held. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery.
