Obituaries

Timothy Allan McNamara, age 70, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away suddenly January 26, 2023. Tim was the beloved husband of Irene for 52 years or 19,116 days; Dearest father of Jennifer (Rich) Mayor and Irene Clarke; and Loving grandpa of Benjamin and Alexis.

Tim grew up in Westland, Michigan, and was one of nine children of Edward and Mercedes McNamara. Tim enjoyed working at Michigan Bell for thirty-six years and was a member of the CWA. In 2003, Tim and Irene bought Moran Bay Motel in St. Ignace. They had many happy days enjoying the sunrises and scenery of the bay and Mackinac Island.

Tim could be seen walking their dogs, English Springer Spaniels, Claude and Keeley. He dearly and deeply loved his wife, Irene. He was a very devoted father and grandfather. He was a good brother and tried to spend time with his siblings whenever possible. Tim was known to be the kindest, gentlest man by his wife Irene and everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends.

For many years Tim enjoyed walking the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day. He treasured his time spent as a minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and especially enjoyed helping with construction of their Kingdom Halls around the state of Michigan and in New York. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. The Song of Solomon was among his favorites.

Tim is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters, Jennifer (Rich) Major and Irene Clarke; grandchildren, Benjamin and Alexis; brothers, Edward, Dennis, and Douglas McNamara: sister, Maureen Grim; and cousin, Sandra McArthur; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Lawrence and James McNamara; and sisters, Kathleen Simpson and Sheila Dunham.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17th, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday, February 18th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Galer Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann St., St. Ignace, MI 49781.

The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 1:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, W 1600 M-123 in Moran MI. The memorial service may also be listened to by phone.

Burial will take place at Michigan Memorial in Flat Rock Michigan.
