Obituaries

Sharon Elizabeth Payment (McRorie, Brown) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Orchard Grove Nursing Center in Romeo, Michigan, at age 89 years old, born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on July 20, 1935.

She was a beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved, James Payment; brother, Lawrence McRorie; and sons, Raymond McRorie, Paul McRorie, and Nathan (Toddy) Payment. She is survived by her children and stepchildren; Carl (Colleen) McRorie, David McRorie, Ed (Myrle) Payment, Sam (Deb) Payment, Krista Payment, Sandy St. Onge, Andrea (Rich) Payment, and Pierre Payment. She will be greatly missed by her siblings, Warren (Norma) McRorie, Julie (Dennis) Day, Charles (Chuck) McRorie, Mary-Lou McRorie, Edith Kay-Burr; and many extended siblings and family. She will be greatly missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her long lifetime, she worked as a bartender, accountant, and homemaker, as well as cared after many grandchildren.

She enjoyed hobbies such as baking, crocheting, making baskets, picking Indian sweet grass, and reading.

Sharon was loving, caring, strong, honest, hard-working, and independent. She was a caretaker and a homemaker. She achieved a certificate in Cosmetology and was an accountant for Jacobson’s for many years. She retired from Jacobson’s to return to the Soo.

It is Sharon’s request for no funeral services to be made and therefore, in order to honor her wishes, we, the family, will host a Celebration of Life on July 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the VFW, 401 W Portage Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
