Obituary For Roger Marvin Dodds

On July 10, 2025, the Lord called home one of His own - Roger Marvin Dodds. Born on May 16, 1949, to Marvin and Idena Dodds. Roger spent his entire life in Pickford, Michigan, a town he deeply loved and proudly called home.

A Class of 1967 graduate of Pickford High School, Roger went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State University. After completing his education, he spent five years working at Soo Motors before beginning a twenty-eight year career with the Michigan Department of Corrections, where he served faithfully, first as a Corrections Officer and retiring as a Resident Unit Manager.

In retirement, Roger could often be found in his workshop, always busy with a new project. Whether he was restoring canoes, crafting coat racks, or building cedar chests and beds for his children, his hands were always at work. He was a skilled craftsman with a generous heart. Roger also dedicated his time and talents to the Pickford Area Historical Museum, helping to preserve the stories and heritage of his community.

Roger especially loved hunting and found great joy in passing that passion down to his son and grandsons.

Roger leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia Ann Dodds; two children, David (Terra) Dodds and Dawn Dodds; five grandchildren, Kila Babcock, Camden Babcock, Lincoln Dodds, Dexter Dodds, and Trey Dodds; four siblings, Marilyn (Gary) Randolph, Sherri (Grant) Voegtline, Cindy (George) Dodds-Dugan, and Dan (Cindy) Dodds; sister-in-law, Jane Begley; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many dear friends; and his cherished dogs, Maggie and Gypsy.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Idena Dodds; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Roger will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering work ethic, his kindness, and his devotion to his church and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Pickford Global Methodist Church, 115 E. Church Street, Pickford, MI 49774 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, with the Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 Noon.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Pickford Global Methodist Church, P.O. Box 128 Pickford, MI 49774 or Pickford Area Historical Museum, P.O. Box 572, Pickford, MI 49774.
