Obituary For Richard Dale Nash
Richard “Oggie” Dale Nash, age 76, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on December 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on April 9, 1949, in Great Falls, Montana, son of the late Charles Barnes and Naomi (Katz) Nash.
Oggie graduated from Grosse Ile High School with the class of 1967. After moving away with his family for few years, he returned to the island, where he met and married Maggie in 1973, raised their three sons, and enjoyed being part of the community for thirty-three years. He served on the Township Board and Police Commission, and he enjoyed doing his famous “parade wave” when cruising through town on the parade route.
Oggie “Dick” had a contagious laugh that seemed to start in his toes and work its way upward, and his big warm smile, are very likely the first things that come to mind. He got a kick out of giving us all a hard time, but Oggie had a big heart, and he was compassionate and generous. He lived life to the fullest and loved his family more than anything, pets included. He was a great friend and neighbor and was very passionate about the things that were important to him: his faith, his country, and Notre Dame football!!
Anyone who knew Oggie knows that he loved Christmas!! Inside and out, the Nash house was always decorated above and beyond. Rumor has it that the outside lights were so bright on their Grosse Ile house, that the small planes flying into Grosse Ile Airport sometimes tried to land in their yard! And when he put on his Santa suit, there was no convincing anyone that he was not the real deal. He was the perfect Santa.
Oggie was a born salesman and loved working hard, no matter the job. He spent most of his professional life in the automotive industry, although his entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore other opportunities over the years as well.
Always keeping family at the center of their lives, when Oggie was semi-retired, he and Maggie moved down to Pinehurst, North Carolina, to live near Nic and Laura and spend time with their kids, Kelsey and Ryan, as they grew up. Later, when Cody, Jannelle, and the boys moved to Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Oggie and Maggie made the move too, and have enjoyed their time watching Cooper and his younger brother, Colton, grow up. When his own sons were young, Oggie enjoyed cheering them on when he went to watch their sporting events, and years later, he did the same for his grandkids.
He was a proud father and grandfather, who in recent years, sent a daily text to his boys, wishing them a great day and telling them he was proud of them and loved them. Although his messages will be missed, all the wonderful memories will be forever cherished.
Oggie is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Margaret “Maggie” (Kelsey) Nash; his beloved sons, Adam Nash of Naples, Florida, Nicolas (Laura) Nash of Pinehurst, and Cody (Jannelle) Nash of Sault Sainte Marie; his four cherished grandchildren, Kelsey, Ryan, Cooper and Colton; his loyal little sidekick, Killie; his brother, David (Sharon) Nash, and his sister, Sondra (Paty).
Oggie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Naomi; his sister, Peggy (Charles) Hurt; and his brother, Larry (Jody) Nash.
Per Oggie’s wishes, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of the EUP, 308 W. 12th Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. https://www.hospiceoftheeup.com/donate/
