Obituary For Raymond Joseph Trouvé
Raymond Joseph Trouvé, age 93, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away peacefully at MyMichigan Medical Center Sault on Thursday, January 15, 2026. He was born on January 7, 1933, in Hempstead, New York, to Louis and Elizabeth (McNally) Trouvé.
Ray grew up on Long Island and graduated from Chaminade High School with the class of 1951. He went on to run track at Seton Hall University, where he claimed to be the fastest half-miler on Long Island! After graduation, he married the love of his life, Clare Bishop, on October 25, 1955. In 1955, Ray joined the United States Army as an officer, becoming a Master Aviator who flew both fixed-wing aircrafts and helicopters, and served two tours in Vietnam. His military career took his family to many states as well as many locations in Germany. Ray completed his military service at Fort Knox, Kentucky, retiring on November 30, 1977. At that time, he moved his family to Sault Ste. Marie, where he taught the ROTC program at Sault Area High School. When that program ended, Ray went back to college, earning his master’s degree in psychology (adding that to a previously earned master’s degree in business). He then taught psychology courses at Lake Superior State University for fifteen years. Despite retiring decades ago, Professor Trouvé’s reputation lives on as family members are often stopped by his former students, telling them how much they loved having Ray as their teacher.
Ray was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Cathedral where he sang in the choir for over forty years alongside his wife Clare. He enjoyed spending his leisure time reading, watching movies, playing cribbage, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. Ray was the definition of a gentleman, and was adored by all who knew him, particularly his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clare; his five children, Laura Murnen of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher (Nancy) Trouvé of Springville, Tennessee, Thomas (Liz) Trouvé of New Orleans, Louisiana, Matthew (Gigi) Trouvé of Endicott, New York, and Monica Trouvé-Sapp of Lompoc, California; fourteen grandchildren, Chris (Emma) Murnen, Jessica Murnen, Katie (Shaun) Cascardo, Raymond (Gretchen) Trouvé, William Trouvé, Charlie Trouvé, Fiona Trouvé, Samantha Trouvé, Megan (Nick) Howe, Katherine Trouvé, Alexandria (Andrew) Bohunicky, Drew (Liliana) Sapp, Sinclare Sapp, and Niko Sapp; seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Philhower, Wyatt and Ella Herman, Luca and Lucy Sapp, Giovanni Cascardo, and James Bohunicky.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved son, Raymond Joseph Trouvé, Jr.; parents, Louis and Elizabeth Trouvé; and his four siblings, Betty, Kathleen, Louis, and Lawrence.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with celebrant Father Dominic Yomoah Afrifa.
