Obituary For Peter Myers, Jr

Peter Myers Jr., age 96, of Paradise, Michigan, died at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey, Michigan, on March 31, 2024, surrounded by members of his family. He was born on August 8, 1927, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Peter Sr., and Marion (Funk) Myers.

Pete grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and began working at a young age, driving trucks, and scaling lumbar at local lumber yards in Michigan and Canada. Pete joined the military in
1945 serving in the 1437th Treadway Bridge Company, Michigan National Guard. He met Joyce Ann Barry, and they married in July 1946, and together had four children - Pete, Rod, Don
(Pickle), and Barb. While raising his family, deployments during his enlistment took him to
Germany at the end of WWII and Korea as a bridge builder in 1951-1952. In 1963, he began over-the-road trucking, traveling all over the country for over thirty years with Nobel Graham
Transport, where he was honored for several million miles of safe driving. In retirement, Pete worked several odd jobs, such as a snowmobile groomer, at the Paradise Senior Center, also for
Paradises’ food pantry, and Smoky the Bear Program. Pete was also a proud member of the VFW in Sault Ste. Marie.

Pete was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, blueberry picking, and gardening. He loved keeping busy and was very knowledgeable about lumber. His grandchildren
fondly remember learning how to stack the perfect straight, tight wood pile from him.
Pete is survived by his sons, Rodney (Mary Jo) Myers of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Donald (Karla) Myers of Brimley, Michigan; daughter, Barbara (Raymond) Smolinski of Kinross, Michigan; grandchildren, Eric (Laura) Morgan, Karen (Craig) Robertson, Alan (Ashley) Myers, Melissa (Bruce) Glasser, Michelle (Ed McKerchie) Smolinski, Ricky (Andra) Myers, Jamie (Michael Kennedy) Myers, Michael (Catherine) Myers, and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; son, Peter III; parents, Peter Sr. and Marion; grandson, Raymond Smolinski; brother, Jimmy Horton; and twin sisters, Margaret Kelly and Mildred Fauch.
