Obituaries

Mona Joan Welke, age 90, of Hessel, Michigan, died on July 10, 2025, at Straits Area Senior Living
Community in St. Ignace, Michigan, under Hospice care. She was born on March 6, 1935, in South
Bend, Indiana, to Lester and Eleanor (Diehm) Wenzel.

Mona grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Redford High School. After graduation, she
entered the work force for a few years. It was through her church community that she met the love of
her life, Donald E. Welke. They married on August 6, 1955. Together they built a life together grounded in faith and love. After facing the challenge of not being able to have children of their own, they lovingly adopted two children and raised them with devotion, love, and care.

Mona was a devoted member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Quilting group as an
accomplished seamstress.

Mona also volunteered her time at the Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville.

Mona is survived by her two children, Kristine Welke of Texas and Robert Welke of Florida;
granddaughter, Tiffiany (Luc) Peyret; great grandson, Grayson; brother, Dennis Wenzel of Hessel;
best friend, Jo Ann Roosen of Hessel; and several nephews and nieces.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Eleanor, husband, Donald, and sister,
Jacqueline (Warren) Meyer.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Bethel Lutheran
Church, 2217 M-129, Cedarville, MI 49719 with the funeral service to follow at 12 noon.

Mona's final resting place will be at Edgewood Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville, Michigan.
