Obituary For Merry Lou Burton

Merry Lou (Badder) Burton, age 90, of Brimley, Michigan, died on December 1, 2025, at her home. She was born on December 31, 1934, in Sault Ste. Mare, Michigan, to James and Mary (Evans) Badder.

Merry grew up in Dollar Settlement, where she enjoyed a close-knit community and the simple pleasures of rural life. She attended Brimley High School, forming friendships that stayed with her throughout the years. After high school graduation, Merry met Robert, the love of her life, and the two were married in 1953, beginning a devoted partnership that would span many decades.

Merry was a woman of many interests and talents. She found joy in sewing and cooking, often sharing her creations with family and friends. She collected dolls with great enthusiasm, each one carrying a story or memory that she cherished. An avid outdoorswoman, she loved hunting and fishing, activities that reflected her appreciation for nature and time spent with loved ones. Merry also enjoyed staying active, whether playing volleyball or gathering around a table for lively card games of “Kaluchi.” In quieter moments, she relaxed with search word puzzles, which she approached with the same patience and curiosity she brought to everything she did.

Above all, Merry will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and the joy she found in both the big adventures and the small, everyday moments of life.

Merry is survived by her children, Greg Burton of Brimley, Cindy Schwiderson of Traverse City, Michigan, Celia Gates of Traverse City, and Robin (Leo) Burnette of Trenary, Michigan; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Barb (Peter) Burton of Bonnie Lake, Washington, and James (Paula) Badder and John Badder both of Brimley.

Merry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; children, Ronald Charles and Robert B. Burton Jr.; sons-in law, Alvin Schwiderson and Lous J. Gates; and sister, Joyce (Jim) Shiver.

A Celebration of Life potluck luncheon for Merry Lou will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bay Mills Township Hall, 14740 W. Lakeshore Dr., Brimley, MI 49715. Please bring a dish to share and memories to celebrate her life.

Merry’s final resting place will be at Dollar Settlement Cemetery.
