Obituary For Mary Catherine (Andary) Crockett
Mary Catherine (Andary) Crockett, age 89, of Cedarville, Michigan, died on October 12, 2023, at her home. She was born on January 7, 1934, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Anthony “Tony” Andary and Kathleen Coughlin.
Mary graduated from Loretto High School with the Class of 1951. After graduation, she attended Lake Superior State College, and then Western Michigan University. She married David Crockett on August 13, 1955, at St. Joseph Church in Sault Ste. Marie by her uncle, Father Tom Andary. They moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in elementary education at Central Michigan University while they started their family. Mary began her teaching career in Saline, Michigan, while Dave earned his degree from the University of Michigan. After they relocated several times from Sault Ste. Marie, to Kentucky, to Saint Clair Shores, they finally settled in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She continued to teach at Carol Stream Elementary while raising seven children and countless animals. Mary and Dave retired in 1989 and moved to Cedarville to enjoy their retirement.
Mary was active in Bethel Lutheran Church Cedarville, where she played the organ as needed. She was a member of the quilting club and assisted in many fundraisers and other activities. She was Involved in; the Coast Guard Auxiliary Les-Cheneaux Flotilla as secretary, Red Hat Society, and volunteer for the Saint Ignace Animal Shelter.
Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved all creatures and rescued, nursed, and fed many critters, both wild and domestic. She maintained, cooked, and canned a large garden with her husband. She had a passion for sewing and not just her family—many people have received a quilt that Mary made to help keep warm. She enjoyed line dancing, canoeing, and sailing her little sunflower boat.
Mary is survived by her husband, David Crockett; son, Dave “Chip” (Darlene) Crockett Jr.; daughter, Cindy Selig; sons, Joe (Darlene) Crockett; daughters, Becky Crockett, and Kathy (Dennis) Letang; and son, Rob Crockett; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Andary; brother-in-law, Bert Crockett; and special friend & caregiver, Wanda Lamoreaux.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Tony Andary; mother, Kathleen Coughlin; son, Danny Crockett; and mother-in-law Marguerite Crockett.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Cedarville. The Memorial Gathering will be from 10 AM - 11 AM with the service starting at 11 AM with Pastor Renee officiating.
There will be a luncheon following the burial at Cedar Cemetery in Clark Twp., Michigan.
