Obituary For Marilyn Lou McCready

Marilyn Lou McCready, age 87, of Cheboygan, Michigan, died on July 13, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 6, 1935, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Carl and Beatrice (Weston) Lockhart.

Marilyn grew up in Pickford, Michigan, and graduated from Pickford High School with the class of 1953. She began working at the Pickford meat plant and married her high school sweetheart, Roland “Rollie” John McCready, on May 22, 1954, in Pickford. They started their family and moved to Mackinac Island, Michigan, where she started as the switchboard operator at Mackinac College. In 1973, she became bookkeeper for Doud’s Grocery. After residing on Mackinac Island for 33 years, Marilyn and Rollie moved to Cheboygan, Michigan, in 1989. Marilyn continued bookkeeping for Doud’s until 2003, when she was ready to retire.

Marilyn loved scrolling on Facebook, going to bingo, crocheting, and playing cards, especially cribbage. She also liked collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Carl McCready of Cheboygan, Christine McCready, of Cheboygan, and Cory (Wendy) McCready of Jemison, Alabama; grandchildren, Carl (Mindy) McCready, Caryn (Mark) Gilbert, Carrie Ann McCready, Chalista (Jordan) Holliday, Alexandria McCready; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Chase, Brielle, Kendall, Noah, Eli, Carlie, William, and Illumi; sister, Marjean (Verne) Izzard of Pickford.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie McCready; parents, Carl and Beatrice; and daughter-in-law, Cathy McCready.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at Galer Funeral Homes, in Pickford. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM.

The burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Bruce Twp, Michigan.
