Obituaries

Margaret Jane Kellan of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away at age 96 on March 21, 2024, at MediLodge of Sault Ste Marie. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie on April 30, 1927, to Morton and Elvina (Sawyers) Eagle. She graduated from Sault High School with the Class of 1945.

Jane was a loving and caring mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church; and in her day, helped prepare crafts and baked goods for their annual tea and bazaar. She had a kind heart, quick wit, and enjoyed entertaining her many friends and family. A visitor never left without a baked good, especially the many loaves she lovingly prepared.

Left to cherish her memory are: son, Dan (Berta) Kellan of Midland, Michigan and Leesburg, Florida; daughters: Shirley (Russ) Peterson of Ludington, Michigan and Patti Kellan of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren who she adored, David Kellan, Liz (Randy) Kellan Popp, Joe (Kim) Kellan, Matthew Kellan, Ben Peterson, Kim Peterson, Don (Christina) Waggoner; step grandchildren, Adam Frederick, and Kyle (Alecia) Frederick; great-grandchildren whom she cherished, Paisley, Gracie, Daniel, Kennedy, Ethan, Amelia, Don, Bruce, Ali, Alexa and Hailee; sister-in-laws, Helen O’Brien, Sylvia Kellan, Nancy Somes; helpful nieces, Maxine Bertram and Sally Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by husband Art Kellan; her parents; siblings, Elmer (Eva) Eagle, Bernice (Forest) Lackey, Elda (Clarence) Guy, Wayne (Ramona) Eagle; brother and sister in-laws: Paul (Elizabeth) Eichstaedt, Delos (Leean) Socia, Bob O’Brien, Bill Kellan, Cory Somes; nephews, Gary Lackey, Jim Lackey; loving niece, Janet Di Foggi; and beloved grandson William Kellan.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all past caregivers who have assisted with Jane’s needs over the past ten years.

A private family gathering will be planned in the future.

Jane’s final resting place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Action Meals on Wheels, 524 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 in memory of Jane Kellan or a charity of choice.
