Obituary For Marcel J Gervais
Marcel J. Gervais, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and uncle, peacefully passed away on July 8, 2023, at the age of 92 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Marcel's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, and his love for his community.
Born on September 25, 1930, in Dryburg, Michigan, Marcel was the 11th child of Raoul and Marieanne Gervais. As he grew up on the family farm, learning the values of hard work, perseverance, and family unity, these principles would shape his character throughout his life.
On June 21, 1952, Marcel married the love of his life, Catherine Forrest, in Sault Ste. Marie. Their union lasted an incredible 68 years, until Catherine's passing in 2020. Together, they built a beautiful family and created cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
Marcel dedicated over three decades of his career to the General Motors Flint Michigan Assembly Plant, where he showcased his mechanical expertise. His skills and commitment earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. In 1983, after retiring from GM, Marcel and Catherine decided to return to their beloved Sault Ste. Marie, where they could enjoy their well-deserved retirement.
Marcel's legacy lives on through his four children: Deborah (Rich) Prins, Gary (Karen) Gervais, Marcella (Ken Stephens) Gervais, and Gene (Sue) Gervais. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always there to provide guidance, love, and unwavering encouragement.
In addition to his children, Marcel is survived by five grandchildren: Jennifer Prins, Michelle (John) Guynn, Andrew Bammert, James Gervais, and Jessica Gervais. He adored his grandchildren and delighted in watching them grow and flourish. Marcel's sister, Frances (Bob) Desrochers, and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss.
Marcel had a deep passion for mechanics and was known for his exceptional skills. He could fix almost anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He found joy in working with his hands and ensuring that things ran smoothly.
Beyond his love for mechanics, Marcel had a zest for outdoor adventures. He relished the thrill of snowmobiling on local trails, cruising on his Can-Am three-wheel motorcycle and exploring the countryside on his ATV. These activities allowed him to embrace nature and experience the beauty of the world around him.
Marcel cherished the simple pleasures of life, including sharing meals at the Pure Country Family Restaurant and gathering with his group of friends at the local Sault Ste. Marie McDonald's. These moments of companionship brought him immense joy and laughter.
Marcel leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and craftsmanship. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
