Obituary For Louise "Grandma Lou" Morningstar

Louise, “Grandma Lou” Morningstar, of Strongs, Michigan passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Louise was born on July 3, 1935 in Garnet, Michigan to the late John and Mamie (Robson) Mills. She attended the one room school house in Naubinway MI. On February 11, 1956, she married Allan R. Morningstar in Strongs, Michigan.

She held many jobs in the area such as planting trees, clipping fins and cooking at the Hiawatha Youth Camp. She retired from the International Bridge as a toll taker after many years of service. Louise cherished the memories of all of her work families and spoke of them often.

She enjoyed making baby quilts for her great grandchildren, jean quilts for her grandchildren, and embroidering hummingbird pillowcases for family and friends. She also enjoyed making her famous homemade noodles and cinnamon rolls. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family where she was sure to have a camera handy.

Louise was solid in her belief of God, and was a living testament to her favorite saying, "There is always something to be thankful for!” She asked for little but gave much. Louise was loved by all who knew her, and will live on in our hearts forever as will the memories of her generosity and infectious laugh.

Louise is survived by her children: Sheryl Kabelman of Strongs, Netha Morningstar of Hastings, Dwight (Terry) Morningstar of Addison, Susan (Mark) Morningstar, Millie (Levi) Carrick, Terry Carrick, and Dale Elliott, all of Brimley; 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings (twin brother) Louis Mills, Donna Pope, Arthur (Dorothy) Mills, and Leona LaPorte. Sisters-in-law: Lorraine Mills, Judy (Jack) Darga, Deb (Ken) Brabant, many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Allan R Morningstar, son-in-law: Pete Kabelman, and siblings: Phyllis, Alice, Gladys, John, Forrest, Dorothy Ann, Kenneth, Leta, Helen, Betty, and a sister-in-law: Violet.

A memorial service will be held this spring at the Strongs Community Bible Church, interment to follow at Coburn Cemetery.
