Obituary For Leon Darrell Weidmann

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Leon Darrell Weidmann of Rudyard finally found peace in his home on April 17, 2024 while holding hands with his beloved wife, Kathy.

Leon was born on February 27, 1955, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Jack and Bernice (Stratton) Weidmann. He was raised in Missouri, enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1976, and was honorably discharged in 1979. Leon married Kathleen Goodine on August 11, 1979, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan before moving back to his home state of Missouri. In 1987, they returned to Michigan where they continued to raise their children and spend their life together. In 1989 Leon began working as a corrections officer and stayed at the prison until his retirement in 2014.

Leon was an avid marksmen, reader, and mechanic. He enjoyed taking Kathy on rides on the back of his Harley Davidson, working on computers, playing harmonica, talking politics, and learning a little bit about a lot of things. Above all, he loved going camping and to the range with his children, watching his grandson grow and adventures with his wife.

Leon is survived by his wife of forty-five years Kathy; children, Chris (Marki) Weidmann of Sault Ste. Marie, and Amanda (Jake) Dratnol of Ishpeming, Michigan; grandson, Christopher Weidmann Jr.; brother, Michael Weidmann of Lebanon, Missouri as well as multiple loved ones he gained through marriage.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Bernice; mother-in-law, Mary Goodine; grandmother, Nanny Stratton and aunt, Phyllis Stratton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
