Obituaries

Kellie Lynn Popour, age 57, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI passed away on April 7, 2023, at My Michigan Health Center.

Kellie was born in Sault Ste. Marie on January 7, 1966, the daughter of Robert and Marcia (Ellis) Malmborg. She graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1984. On December 23, 1988, she married Troy Popour at the First United Presbyterian Church. Kellie worked at Riverside Medical for more than 30 years and considered the staff her family. She and Troy were members of the Christopher Columbus Hall.

Kellie had a great love for animals, both wild and domestic. She fed all the animals from deer to squirrels to birds. She especially loved her cats: Cinder and Bella. Kellie also enjoyed working in her yard and around the house. She decorated and did landscaping. She enjoyed being part of a building project, which makes sense given her father’s business.

Kellie is survived by her husband: Troy Popour; her father: Robert Malmborg of Sault Ste. Marie; a brother: Ron (Michelle) Malmborg of Sault Ste. Marie; her mother and father-in-law: Barb and James Popour of Sault Ste. Marie; a brother-in-law: Cary Popour of North Carolina; an aunt: Sherry (Pat) McKee of Plymouth, IN; four nieces and nephews: Misty, Ryan, Ashlyn, and Dylan; and several cousins.

Kellie was preceded in death by her mother: Marcia Malmborg; her sister: Carrie Malmborg; and her grandmothers: Olive Malmborg and Berneta Ellis-Brady.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the funeral home that same day starting at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter.
