Joni Renee Talentino, age 56, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on June 28, 2025. She was born on June 3, 1969, in Coldwater, Michigan, to Glenn and Doreen (Roy) Nelson. She brought unforgettable happiness and pride to them and to all who knew her.

Joni made her life in Sault Ste. Marie, where she was a passionate leader and advocate in her role as a Housing Director. She poured her heart and soul into helping others, dedicating herself fully to serving her community and uplifting those in need. Her work touched countless lives and left a lasting impact.

Joni was a proud member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and her heritage remained a deeply meaningful part of her identity.

Joni loved being out on the water boating, tending to her garden, and enjoying the outdoors. More than anything, she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and “Gigi”. Her family was her greatest joy and accomplishment, and she loved them with all her heart.

Joni is survived by her daughter, Mikaila Talentino of Rochester Hills, Michigan; son, Zack (Kristen) Talentino of Hudson, Wisconsin; parents, Glenn and Doreen Nelson of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; brother, Marc (Monica) Nelson of Marquette, Michigan; her cherished grandchildren, Braelynn (13), Brekken (8), and Blaise (5); many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and her beloved grand-dog, Ovi.

Her warmth, spirit, and deep compassion will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joni’s name to the Epilepsy Foundation at epilepsyfoundationmn.org as her grandson was recently diagnosed.
