Obituary For Johnnie Owen Dutcher
Johnnie Owen (Brown) Dutcher, age 71, of Goetzville, Michigan, died on December 4, 2025 at McLaren Northern Michigan. He was born on June 8, 1954, in Logan, West Virginia, to Johnnie and Mildred (Thomas) Brown.
John was a kind, generous, hardworking, and ethical man. He loved his wife, family, friends, farm, and especially his cattle and his dogs. His heart was in farming, but he also worked as a surveyor, a delivery driver, and whatever he needed to do to take care of his family. He was honest to a fault and loved to tell stories and jokes, clean or otherwise. He loved to laugh.
John had a passion for intelligent debate, a wickedly competitive game of Scrabble, and mentoring younger people in the art of organic farming and local food production. He also loved science, reading, the outdoors, good food, homemade blueberry wine, and the company of the many friends who had become family to him since he came to Michigan in 1977.
John is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sister, Sheri Dutcher of Tallahassee, Florida; brother, Mark (Pon) Dutcher of Spring Hill, Florida; aunt, Shirley (Ralph) Lusk of Davin, West Virginia; cousin, Rebecca Lusk (Justin) Childress; nieces, Ashley Dutcher and Christine Yantakit; nephews, Dalton Dutcher, Bill Murphy, John Murphy, and Joel Murphy; and many great nieces and nephews who were a special delight in his life. He had the joy of having Ashley Stefanski and Noah Nettleton be a part of his Raber family along with so very many people that his life touched along the way.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Dutcher; father and step-mother, Johnnie C. (Sarah) Brown; in-laws, William (Muriel) Murphy; brother-in-law, W.H. Murphy; cousin, Ralph Paul Lusk of West Virginia; and his brothers in spirit, Rick Deem, Doug Townsend, Russ Goetz, and Bob Townsend.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no services.
Just remember John with a smile and take to heart that life is short, so you may as well take a moment to love, laugh, and stop and smell the roses.
