Obituaries

Jody Lee Piippo, age 62, of Rudyard, Michigan passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at his home. He was born May 16, 1961, in St. Ignace, Michigan, to Onnie and Ruth (Hancock) Piippo.

Jody grew up in Rudyard and graduated from Missouri high school. He enlisted in the US Army as a young man and was stationed in Korea, where he met and married his wife, Kumsun Chu. After receiving an honorable discharge, they moved back to Rudyard and raised their family.
During the Christmas season, they would spend two months in Chicago where they had a thriving Christmas tree business.

Jody enjoyed spending time with his family and in the great outdoors—farming, hunting, and fishing. He loved his faithful K9 companion, Mia, who followed him everywhere.

Jody is survived by his children, Judy Ann (Kris) Miller of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Joshua Lee Piippo; siblings, Elaine Caldwell of Canton, Michigan, and Willard Piippo of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Asia Jones, Ty Miller, and Jace Piippo.

Jody was preceded in death by his wife, Kumsun Piippo; parents, Onnie and Ruth Piippo; brother, Arnie Piippo; and sister, Annie Piippo.

Per Jody’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life is being planned for the summer of 2024.
