Obituary For James "Jim" Milton Callon

James “Jim” Milton Callon passed away at the age of 92 on October 13, 2023, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on June 17, 1931, in Ontario, Canada to Nellie (Haynes) and James Callon.

Jim was a mechanic by trade and if it was broken, he’d find a way to fix it. He worked at Algoma Steel for many years, retiring as a Forman in 1998. Jim loved to go fast. Racing was in his blood. He started racing stock cars and super modified cars through the late 50’s and 60’s. He later became involved in Rally racing and developed numerous friendships throughout the years. He loved to tinker and got involved in amateur radio later in life. Holding both US and Canadian amateur radio licenses. Call signs VA3JIM and KB8SKC. He took every opportunity to flirt with the ladies and try to make people smile. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and Friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Gloria Callon; son, James (Kathy) Callon of Sault Ste Marie, MI; daughter, Susan (Mike) Boros of Brighton MI; grandchildren, Deborah (Bill) Kanoy, James (April) Callon, Christopher (Niki) Boros, and Justin Boros; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his sister, Joyce Alexander of Boston, MA; brother, Danny (Sharon) and sister-in-law, Joanne Callon all of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Jim was proceeded in death by his mother & father, Nellie & Jim Callon; and brother, Walter Callon all of Sault Ste Marie Ontario.

Special thanks to the second-floor nursing staff at My Michigan Health (WMH), the staff at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs, and McLaren Hospice for taking such good care of Jim.

There will be no service at his request. He outlived most of his friends.
