Henry “Sandy” Francis Ware, age 88, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on November 20, 2025, at McKinley Manor in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on July 27, 1937, in Sault Ste. Marie to Henry and Frances (MacMaster) Ware.

Henry grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Loretto Catholic Central High School. He went on to attend Michigan Technological University, earning his degree before later completing his masters at Northern Michigan University. On July 6, 1962, Henry married the love of his life, Ann Marie Ranson, and together they raised four children.

Henry proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. After his service, he taught in the Sault Area Public Schools before finishing his career in the family construction business.

He was a dedicated member of The Elk Lodge #552 and a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Henry cherished spending time with his family. He found his greatest peace in the quiet of the woods. His love for hunting and the outdoors was more than a pastime, it was a way of life that grounded him and brought him true joy.

Henry is survived by his children, Henri (Stephanie) Ware of Dafter, Michigan, Robert Ware of Dafter, Stephanie (Matt) Donaldson of Port Huron, and James Garth (Leira) Ware of Juneau, Alaska; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Phyllis) Ware of Florida, Linda (Jim) Little of Barbeau, Michigan, Susan (Reine) Benoit of Brighton, Michigan, Valerie Ranson of Barbeau, Robert (Debbie)Ware of Barbeau and Steven Ware of Barbeau.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents, Henry and Francis; brother, James Ware; brothers-in-law, Chuck Ranson and Jim Little; sisters-in-law, Diane and Phyllis Ware; niece, Rachel Ware; and nephew, Jon Ware.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the end of July 2026.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that donations be made in Henry’s honor to Chippewa County Veterans, 319 Court St., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 and Northwoods Homecare Hospice, 226 S. Cedar St. Manistique, MI 49854.
