Gloria Lou Roy, age 87, of Sault Ste Marie, MI passed-away on Tuesday March 14, 2023 at the Hospice House in Sault Ste Marie, MI.

Gloria was born on January 26, 1936 in Sault Ste Marie to Earl and Ellamay (Akrigg) Brock.

Gloria, along with her late husband Dennis Roy, owned and operated Roy’s Roost Motel in Sault Ste Marie, MI for many years. Gloria was a hard worker, so after selling the motel, she worked at the Budget Host motel for many years, until her retirement at age 80. She greatly enjoyed her job, and made lifelong friends with her co-workers and owners Tony and Marcia.

Gloria was a devout Christian who enjoyed many years of worship and service at the Wesleyan Church in Sault St Marie. She taught Sunday school and is remembered fondly by many of her former Sunday school students.

Gloria loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they greatly enjoyed her. She also enjoyed bowling, knitting mittens, reading, and card games with family and close friends.

Gloria was a loving mother to her five children: Dale (Lisa) Rabineau of Butler, Indiana; Karen (Tom) Gorenflo of Brimley,, Michigan; Steve Rabineau of Dafter, Michigan; Pam Popoff of Sault Ste Marie; Janet (Tom) Sibbald of Dafter, MI.

She was a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren whom she loved very much; Shay, Chase, Skye, Paige, Kerri, Keena, Lonna, Kelsey, Nick, Danielle, Jenna, Misty, Marci, Chad, and Chelsey, and many great-grandchildren.

Gloria was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, Arthur Rabineau; her husband Dennis W. Roy, whom she married on August 22, 1971; siblings Mildred Thompson, Elsie Harmon, Audrey Piche, Donna Verrett, Dorothy Burt, Sharon Jaros, and infant sister Dolores Brock.

A memorial service will be held on Monday March 20, 2023 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Family and close friends may gather at 10:00 a.m. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 pm, officiated by her son, Pastor Dale Rabineau. Special music will be provided by Gloria’s niece Kim Zeigler.
