Gene Warren Black, age, 78, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 10, 2023, at his home.

Gene was born on June 25, 1944, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Leslie and Augusta “Gussy” (Long) Black. He attended Sault High School. Gene married Beverly Schwiderson on February 26, 1965. They were happily married for 58 years. He was a member of Local #324. He enjoyed fishing and watching birds, especially hummingbirds. He always wore his lucky bracelet to the grandchildren’s games. They were the apple of his eye.

Gene is survived by his wife Beverly Black; two children: Rhonda Black of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Mark (Heather) Black of Pickford, MI; and five grandchildren: Ryan Sawyers, Jared (Alexis) Sawyers, Cora Black, Chase Black and Cody Campbell. He is also survived by his siblings Gerry (Arlene) Black, Vic Black, Arnold (Lois) Black, Pat (Don) Hakala, Priscilla (Gary) Barber and Larry (Ann) Black.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Kenneth and Ervin Black.

Cremation has already taken place and according to Gene’s wishes, no public services will be held.
