Obituaries

Frederick “Freddie P.” Charles Payment, age 92, of DeTour Village, Michigan, died at his home
on March 20, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1931, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to
Richard and Edna (Lee) Payment.

Freddie was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in DeTour Village and the Raber AMVETS
Post #79. He was also an Elder of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Freddie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, catching minnows and using
them as shiners, and tending to his flower garden. He also enjoyed woodworking, watching the
Detroit Tigers, attending local sports events, decorating his church for Christmas, and spending
time with his grandbabies.

Freddie is survived by his wife, Pamela Payment of DeTour Village; sons, Steve (Jolene)
Payment of Menominee, Michigan, and Chuck (Denise) Payment of Newberry, Michigan;
daughters, Bonita (Jerry) Higgins of Wallace, Michigan, Leilani (Jeff) Strohl of Wallace; step-
children, Annette Wilson of DeTour Village, Kevin Callaghan of Reno, Nevada, and Bill
Callaghan of New Bedford, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Rachel (Chris) Byer, Matt (Jess)
Payment, Amber Payment, Crystal Payment, Shannon Dennis, Jason Higgins, Jeremy (Trisha)
Erickson, Logan (Jessie) Erickson, Shawn Erickson, Darci (Donny) Newell, Josh Wilson, Alyssa
Wilson, Billy Callaghan, Jackie Callaghan, Katie and Danika Boettcher, and David Payment;
sister, Joann (Robert) Trudo of DeTour Village; and many beloved great grandchildren.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Richard, and Edna; children, David Payment, and
Kelly Callaghan; sister, Marilyn Gillam; brother, Richard Payment; infant brother and sister,
Robert and Leilani, and grandson, Nathan Duane Erickson.

Per family’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Final Resting Place will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour Village, Michigan.
