Francis “Frank” Willard McConkey, age 81, Of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on May 27, 2023, at Medilodge in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on July 15, 1941, in Pickford, Michigan, to Everett Melvin and Jennie Elizabeth (Peffers) McConkey.

Frank grew up in Pickford where he attended school. He began working at the age of sixteen on the family farm. He moved to Texas in pursuit of work and later returned to Sault Ste. Marie and started his family. He had a knack for cars & auto body repairs and worked at many local autobody shops over the years. He started his own collision repair shop and ran that for many years until he retired.

Frank enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and working on cars. He spent whatever extra time he could tinkering around in the garage and always had some project he was working on. He was a hard worker all his life and enjoyed staying busy.

Frank is survived by his grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin Potter) McConkey; great-grandchildren, Kayden & Katriina Potter; siblings, Arla McDowell of Sault Ste. Marie, Evelyn (Peter) Bush of Sault Ste. Marie, Everett (Arlene) McConkey Jr. of Escanaba, Michigan, and Janette (Fred) Renaud of Cedarville, Michigan; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Frank is preceded in death by his children, David McConkey, Daniel McConkey and Doreen McConkey; sister, Betty McConkey; brother-in-law, Russell McDowell; and his parents, Everett and Jennie.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place & his final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery.

A Family Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer 2023.
