Obituaries

Flora Jane (Bridge) Fortin, age 96, of Sault St. Marie, MI passed away on August 19, 2023 at My Michigan Medical Center. She was born on March 20, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Clifford H. Bridge and Maggie May Warren Bridge.

Flora was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where she met her future husband, Edwin R. Fortin. The couple married September 14, 1946 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The couple remained married 63 years until Edwin’s death December 15, 2009.

Flora graduated from Sault High and attended the Sault Cosmetology School. She opened Flora Jane's Beauty Salon. Our Mother was an exceptional artist, attending many art classes at Lake Superior State. She was a long-time member of the Sault Art Guild. She enjoyed quilting and was a talented seamstress. She was a long-standing member of the First United Presbyterian Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford & Maggie Bridge, husband Edwin R. Fortin and all of his siblings. Flora’s siblings: Beaula Bridge, Pansey O’Neal, Emmerson Bridge, Lola Taylor and Stanley Bridge.

Flora is survived by daughter Christine (L. G. Mick) Macklem, Wayne (Barbara) Fortin, and Carol (Karl) Shunk. Five grandchildren Sean (Beth) Macklem, Todd (Sarah) Macklem, Karl (Abby) Shunk II, Andre’ Fortin, Jessica (Matt) Gephart. Great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ashton Macklem, Corbin, Fletcher Gephart, Lily, Wyatt Shunk, Brynn, Porter Macklem.

Flora’s family would like to thank the wonderful care given by the staff of McKinley Manor and the My Michigan Heath ER and intensive care unit.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice, in memory of Flora.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 11:00 Am till 12 Noon at First United Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie. The Funeral Service will follow t 12:00 PM.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, in Bruce Township, Michigan.
