Douglas Ovid Grovesteen, age 83, of Sugar Island passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home.

Doug was born on November 20, 1939 to John and Mirya (Stine) Grovesteen in Goodrich, MI. He graduated with the Brandon High School Class of 1958. On February 16, 1987 he married Sharon Hutchinson in Holly, MI.

For 39 years Doug worked as a bus driver for the Brandon School District, and as Camp Ranger for the Girl Scouts of America for 43 years. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and family, as well as his many hobbies: hunting, fishing, taking care of his homestead – gardening, working in the woods with his tractor, and feeding his animals. He also enjoyed time bowling and boating.

Doug is survived by his wife: Sharon; his six children: Mark (David Hoar) Grovesteen of Virginia; Matt Grovesteen of Davison, MI; Michael (Jennifer) Grovesteen of Florida; Michelle Grovesteen of Alabama; Christy (Steve) Russell of Waterford, MI; and Daniel (Melissa) Lambert of Roseville, MI; eight grandchildren: Ashley (Adam), Rebekah (Zach), Logan (Courtney), Landon, Jacob, Lawson, Hunter, and Blake; and his two great-grandchildren, Payson and Kennedy. Also surviving Doug are his siblings: Lon (Kay) Grovesteen of Virginia; Sally Keiler of Mount Pleasant, MI; and Jane (Lance) Ager of West Branch, MI.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Howard, and his sisters: Joyce Dobyns and Diane Frances.

A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM, with Jeff Middlestead officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home that same day from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Private burial will be at the Murray Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
