Obituaries

Dorothy “Dottie” Ruth Glashaw, age 86, of Naubinway, Michigan, entered the presence of her Lord on January 28, 2026, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, Michigan. She was born on August 14, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Lee and Loryce (McLeod) Dyer.

Dottie grew up in Comstock Park, Michigan, as the fourth of six children. She attended school in Comstock Park before moving during her senior year and graduating from LaSalle High School in 1957. Following graduation, she lived and worked in California and on Mackinac Island, having many adventures at both places. Dottie was an athlete from childhood and enjoyed team sports of bowling and softball in St. Ignace. She was also an actress with the town playhouse for many years.

Dottie was formerly married to Ernie Glashaw and had one daughter, Theresa. Dottie worked for Star Line for twenty-five years. After retiring, she returned to her family homestead on Epoufette Bay built by her brothers, a place she dearly loved. There, she spent countless happy hours working in her gardens and hosted gatherings for friends and family.

Dottie’s faith was an important part of her life. She faithfully attended services at St. Ignatius Loyola Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort. She was a member of the St. Ignace Area Community Foundation and was a past member of the St. Ignace Red Hats Society. She was also a proud supporter of the Right to Life Organization.

Dottie gave generously of her time, serving on the Mackinac County Hospice Board of Directors for twelve years. She was instrumental in the founding of the Loryce M. Dyer Hospice Chapter.
Dottie cherished her lifelong friendships with Sharon Wayer and Betty Carpenter. Above all, Dottie adored her granddaughters and her great-grandson, eagerly sharing their photos and videos with everyone she met.

Dottie is survived by her beloved sister, Helen Dowd, daughter, Theresa (“Golden Son” Derreck) Jewell; granddaughters, Jenna (Jonny) Bazzle, Rachel (Levi Merrymon) Jewell, great-grandchild, Caspian Bazzle; nieces, Carole (Stephen), Missy (Tim), Loryce (Jim), Nancy, Diane, Gayle and Allison; nephews, Chuck (Lori), Jackie, and Norm, who graciously loved and cared for Dottie.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Loryce; brothers, Jim Dyer, Jack Dyer, Jerry Dyer, and Alfred Dyer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Family Life Funeral Home, 999 S. State Street, St. Ignace, Michigan. A Memorial Celebration is planned for the spring.
