Obituaries

Dorothy Marie (Tremblay) Smith, age 95, of Rudyard, Michigan died on October 6, 2023. She was born on August 24, 1928, in Rudyard, Michigan, to Albert Joseph and Louise Marie (Knauf) Tremblay.

Dorothy graduated from Rudyard High School in 1947 and married Milbun “Bud” Smith on August 23, 1947, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rudyard. She worked as a homemaker and cleaned houses. In 1968, they started and operated Smith Sanitation, with Dorothy and the kids operating the sanitation business, and later passing the business down to son Fred Smith.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rudyard, Michigan.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidering, making beautiful ornaments for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, word search puzzles, and spending winters in Alabama.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Hazel (Roger) Metts of Uriah, AL; sons, Robert Smith of Bradley, SD, Roy (Carol) Smith of Belding, and Paul Smith of Kincheloe; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandy Smith; sister-in-law, Karen Tremblay; and sister, Ann Sadler of Marquette.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Milbun; sons, Frederick Smith and Al Smith; daughters-in-law, Jackie Smith and Brenda Smith; brother, Louis Tremblay of Rudyard; sister, Bertha Williams of Fibre; and brothers-in-law, Pat Sadler and Bob Williams.

Memorial Services will be on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10:00 am at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rudyard.

Final Resting Place will be at the North Rudyard Cemetery in Rudyard, Michigan.
