Donna “Kathy” Kathleen Crane, age 75, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center - Sault. She was born on June 18, 1950, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Donald Harwood and Judith (Westover) Herrman.

On July 22, 1968, Kathy married her sweetheart, Melvin “Ed” Crane, and together they shared a lifetime of love and laughter. They raised one son, Edwin, and opened their hearts and home to several foster children over the years. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love for her family knew no bounds.

Kathy had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, her home was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her advice always honest. She was a source of comfort and strength for those who knew her, touching countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and generosity.

Kathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time by the water searching for rocks, tending to her garden, and caring for the many animals she adopted over the years—birds, dogs, and cats alike. She was especially proud of her morning glories and her garden full of tomatoes and squash. Kathy was also a talented baker, known in her family for her famous banana and pumpkin breads.

Kathy is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Ed; son, Edwin (Cheryl) Crane; grandchildren, Taylor (John) Geukes and Tyler Crane; siblings, Kristeen (Lee) Mason, Kelly (Dawn) Barras, Kevin Herrman, and Karen (Ray) Mueller; aunts, Linda Westover and Laurie Payment; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Judith Herrman; uncles, Ron Westover and Ricky Westover; and aunts, Wendy Bjunes and Patsy Dosenbach.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Kathy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
