Obituary For Dennis Ted Skidmore

Dennis Ted Skidmore, age 73, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on June 23, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center. He was born on April 7, 1953, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Sam and Betty (Herington) Skidmore.

Dennis “Skids” attended Sault Area High School and graduated with the class of 1971. While in school he excelled at football and hockey. After graduation Dennis worked on the Great Lakes Freighter’s for many years. He married Renae DeMolen. He was blessed to adopt Cecily and loved being her dad. Dennis loved sports and anything outdoors. He enjoyed going to his dad’s favorite spots. He wasn’t an avid hunter but did enjoy talking to his brother; Bill, about deer hunting.

An important part of Dennis’s life was construction work with his business partner, cousin, and
best friend, John Osborn. These two men could build or fix almost anything. Dennis was a great storyteller, never running out of entertaining stories. His wonderful sister; Barb, took the role of caregiver, helping Renae by driving Dennis numerous times to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for surgeries and procedures. Dennis wanted to live and fought hard until the end.

Dennis is survived by wife, Renae; daughter, Cecily; brother, Bill (Nancy) Skidmore of Sault Ste. Marie; sisters, Vickie Rose of Sault Ste. Marie, and sister Barb (Kevin) Fabry of Brimley, Michigan; nieces, Erin (Reg) Madeline, Becky (Ed) O’Neil, Liz (Micah) Johnson, and nephews, Andrew Skidmore, Will (Amy) Fabry, Sam Fabry, and Joe Fabry; great nieces, Ava Madeline, Hannah Rose, Sophie O’Neil, and Millie Fabry; great nephews, Sam O’Neil, Ben Johnson, Tucker, and James Fabry; great-great niece, Charlotte; and great-great nephew, Vincent.
.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Betty; and nephew, Brian Rose, who shared hunting and fishing interests with him.

Per Dennis’s wishes, no services will be held.

Dennis’ final resting place will be near his parents at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township, Michigan.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at MyMichigan Medical Center and to the hospice nurse who provided compassionate care for Dennis at home.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the love he gave, the memories he
created, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
