Obituary For Deann I Lounds

Deann I. Lounds, age 86, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on March 17, 2026, at the Merlin Home in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on April 30, 1939, in Sault Ste. Marie to Charles and Everalda (Bushman) McGill.

Deann was a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie and a graduate of Sault Area High School. She worked for many years in financial institutions as a proof operator, where she built lasting friendships and was well respected by her coworkers.

Deann was a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Deann had a strong passion for softball and was known as a talented fast pitcher, playing on both the Men’s Circuit Softball Team at a young age and women’s fast-pitch teams, where she was especially recognized for her “windmill pitch”.

Deann enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. She was also an avid sports fan who loved cheering on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Lions, but nothing brought her more joy than spending her summers at the cabin with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Deann is survived by her son, Charles (Cheryl) Lounds of Kinross, Michigan; daughters, Wendy (Richard) Moon of Sault Ste. Marie, and Tammy (Robert) Ault of Drummond Island, Michigan; grandchildren, Nathon Moon, Nicholas Moon, Courtney (Derrick) Campbell, Charles (Elisha) Lounds, Bryan (Jackie) Lounds, and Keith (Cynthia) Lounds; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Wyatt, Lilly, Remi, Hudson, Ella, Lily, Adria, Suzie, Cole, Maryn, Owen and Chloe; special friends, Cindy and Sandy; her dog, Mister; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Deann was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; brothers, Dwayne (Eleanor) McGill and Daryl (Thelma) McGill; great-grandson, Rory Lounds; and nephew, Duane McGill.

Per Deann’s wishes, no services are being held at this time.

Deann’s final resting place will be at Donaldson Cemetery in Dafter, Michigan.
