Obituary For Daniel Zane Fick
Daniel Zane Fick, age 61, of Pickford, Michigan, died unexpectedly at his home on October 13, 2025. He was born on July 14, 1964, in Marlette, Michigan, to Robert and Audrey (Maschke) Fick.
Daniel graduated from Pickford High School with the Class of 1983. During his school years, he was a talented athlete, excelling in football, pole vaulting, and participating in the amateur boxing club. After graduation, Daniel spent several years driving semi-trucks and helping his father on the family’s dairy farm. He later founded his own business, Fick Excavating, which he operated for about five years. Following his time as a business owner, Daniel worked for several union contractors before joining Kokosing Alberici Constructors & Traylor Bros. Inc., where he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the past 10 years. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324.
Daniel took great pride in his “hobby farm,” where he raised everything from riding and work horses to beef cattle and his homegrown beef was well-known and highly praised by many. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, often putting in long hours to ensure his family was well cared for. Above all, Daniel cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Daniel is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Anthony (Heather) Pierce, Kaye Rutledge, Alicia (Steve) Heath and Austin Bruning; grandchildren, Trace Pierce, Levi VanLuven, Hayden Causley, Elizabeth VanLuven, Lillian VanLuven, Bristol Causley, Carson Bruning, Zane Causley, Jaxson Bruning, Jameson Pierce, Taylor Bruning, Gage Pierce and Isla Pierce; mother, Audrey Fick; siblings, April (Steve) Schaub, Jed (Tina Huffman) Fick, Chris Fick, Michele (Tim) Fiering-LaForest and Rose (Gary) Senko; mother-in-law, Josephine Pierce; and sisters-in-law, April Pierce, Victoria Christopher and Colleen Pierce.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Robert Fick; son, James Pierce; son-in-law, Jason Rutledge; father-in-law, Brian Black; sister-in-law, Deana Austin; cousin, Greg Vick; and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 24549 S. M-129 Pickford, MI 49774, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. The Funeral Service will follow immediately at 3:00 PM.
