Dale Eugene Smith Sr., age 68, of Eckerman, Michigan, died on October 17, 2026, at Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 14, 1958, in Trenton, Michigan, to Eugene and Stella (Sochocki) Smith.

Dale grew up in Milan, Michigan, and graduated from Milan High School in 1976. He worked for General Motors and, upon retirement, moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where he found great joy in living and enjoying the beauty of the area.

Dale loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was a kindhearted man who cherished his companions, his two dogs, Kricket and Zippo. He recently said goodbye to Zippo, who had been a special part of his life. Dale also enjoyed attending concerts, with Alice Cooper being his favorite artist, and watching game shows on television. Sundays were especially enjoyable for Dale, as he looked forward to playing bingo.

Dale is survived by his mother, Stella Smith of Milan; son, Dale Smith Jr. of Eckerman; grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Trevor Hamon, Daniel Hamon, and James Hamon; great-grandchildren, Owen Blumenstock, Luke Smith, and Asmodeus Hamon; siblings, Diane (Sonny) Shepanski of Willis, Michigan, and Dawn (Randy) Divert of Milan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; best friend, Odis Massy; and dog, Kricket.

Dale was preceded in death by his daughter, Mandy; father, Eugene; sister, Debra Kimble; infant sister; and dog, Zippo.

Dale is already missed and will always be loved by all – Rest in peace, Dale.
