Obituary For Cindi Ann Styes
Cindi Styes, born Cynthia Ann Brown, suddenly and unexpectedly went to be with Jesus on July 1, 2025, just hours after a diagnosis of an aggressive bacteria in her system.
She was born Cynthia Ann Brown in Metro Detroit to John Anderson and Wanda (Canfield) Brown. Cindi was the only daughter of five siblings and the second eldest of her parents’ children. Her early education was completed in the St. Ignace school system while her family lived in Pine River. She attended Pearson Junior High upon her family’s return to the Detroit area and graduated from Redford Union High School.
After high school, Cindi returned to Pine River and the St. Ignace area where she met George Robert Styes Jr., who eventually became her husband and the father of her children. His service in the U.S. Navy moved them to California, eventually returning to St Ignace.
Cindi sacrificed much as the single mother she became. She faced a lifetime of pain and struggles that could easily have crushed her at times, but she never gave up. She loved her children unconditionally and she never once gave them an occasion to doubt that.
Many have had the opportunity to recognize and praise Cindi for what she did in life. She completed a one-year certificate program at Lake Superior State College in 1984 where her professors praised her concerning her writing skills. She was known to many who received one of her homemade angel food cakes, often for some celebration, and sometimes, just because.
Most recently, she could be found as a volunteer at the Hope Chest organizing, folding, and displaying children’s clothing.
Cindi loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved her cat, Lily. She was exceedingly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, taking advantage of any occasion or social media platform to sing their praises. She fully delighted in her roles as grandmother and great grandmother.
Cindi is survived by her daughter, Melissa Dockry; her identical twin sons, George and John (Jamie) Styes; youngest brother, Timothy Brown; grandchildren, Taylor, Jack, Charlee, Riley, Caleb, Jacob, Brett, and Jourdan (Derek); great-grandchildren, Khloey, Beau, and the soon to arrive daughter of Caleb Styes; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cindi was preceded in death by her parents, John and Wanda; three of her brothers, Leon, John, and Lester; and her son-in-law, Tim Dockry.
She leaves behind a void not easily filled.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Glen Memorial Baptist Church, 219 E. Truckey Street St. Ignace, MI 49781, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. The Funeral Service will follow immediately at 4:00 PM.
To help the family with funeral expenses during this difficult time, memorial contributions may be made to Family Life Funeral Homes, 999 S. State St. St. Ignace, Michigan 49781. The family is deeply grateful for the love, support, and generosity shown by friends and loved ones.
