Obituary For Charles Mathew Malcho

Charles "Chuck" Mathew Malcho, age 82, a prominent real estate investor known for his entrepreneurial spirit and deep love of Michigan’s natural beauty, died on July 4, 2025, in Hessel, Michigan, from complications of cancer.

Born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, Chuck was the son of the late Lawrence and Florence (Daley) Malcho. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and later earned a degree in business from the University of Michigan, laying the foundation for a successful career in real estate investment.

From an early age, Chuck had a deep connection to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In the 1950s, his family began spending summers in the Les Cheneaux Islands, where Chuck learned to sail and developed a lifelong affection for the area. He worked for many summers as a "camp boy" for the Seiberling family of Akron, Ohio, which sparked his lifelong passions for wooden boats and boating throughout the Les Cheneaux Islands. His pride and joy was his 1946 Chris Craft named "Sophie" that can still be seen doing evening ice cream runs with his children and grandchildren.

Chuck would go on to develop a passion for aviation, owning two aircrafts, a twin-engine Cessna and a King Air, he enjoyed using them for adventure, including a memorable trip to Canada to see the polar bears. Chuck was an avid international traveler and a member of The Nomad Travel Club.

After decades of work in real estate, Chuck retired to Hessel in 2006, returning full-time to the place that had long been his sanctuary. His perfect day included feeding the deer, sailing the waters of Hessel Bay, and piloting Sophie to the Bon Aire ice cream shop in nearby Cedarville. He was a voracious reader of history and often enjoyed reading a good book while watching the snow fall and sitting next to his wood-burning stove.

Chuck is survived by his second wife, Constance Malcho of Detroit, Michigan; daughter, Michelle Seward (William) of Denver, Colorado; his son, Michael Malcho (Michelle Bunker) of Beverly Hills, Michigan; and his grandchildren Alexandra Seward, Michael Seward, and Emerson Malcho.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Gregory Malcho and Brian Malcho.

Donations is his honor may be made to a charity that you feel would honor Chuck's memory.
