Calvin James McCloskey, age 18, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died on May 26, 2025, on Drummond Island. He was born on July 19, 2006, in Petoskey, Michigan, to Chuck and Shannon McCloskey.

Cal was born and raised on Drummond Island and was a true islander at heart. He began his education at the local preschool and elementary school before graduating with the Class of 2024 from DeTour High School.

While in high school, Cal was a proud member of the golf team and also played basketball until an injury ended his time on the court. Even after that, his dedication to his team never wavered—he showed up often at games to cheer on his friends from the sidelines.

Cal began working at the Drummond Island Resort Golf Course in 2021 as a groundskeeper, a job he loved and continued until his passing. He was also a member of both The Rock Golf Course and The Drummond Township Golf Course, where he spent countless hours doing what he loved most.

He found joy in everything outdoors—hunting, making maple syrup, snowmobiling, swimming, fishing, boating, and playing golf. Cal was a lover of nature’s beauty, often capturing breathtaking sunrises and sunsets through his camera lens. He even had a special fondness for thunderstorms and northern lights. He was known for his fiery red hair, his funny sarcastic nature, quick wit, and the ever-present music from the big speaker he brought wherever he went. He treasured time with his close friends and adored his cat, Chirdy, who was always by his side when he came home for a landing.

Calvin’s life, though far too short, was rich with love, laughter, and adventure. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cal is survived by his parents, Chuck and Shannon of Drummond Island; sister, Tailey McCloskey of
Drummond Island; grandparents, Carl and Toni Hartman of Drummond Island and Chuck and Cheryll
McCloskey of Whitehall, Montana; great-grandparent, Arlen “Swede” McCloskey of Butte, Montana; aunts and uncles, Nolan (fiancé, Bailey Gilbert) Hartman, Fred Shepherd, Jordan Hartman, Nathan (Christy) Hartman, Heather (Sam) McCloskey-Spencer; and several cousins and friends.

Cal was preceded in death by his grandfather, Randy Shepherd; great-grandfather, Cal Roberts; and great-
grandmothers, Shirley McCloskey, Elaine Roberts, and Darlene Rose.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Lighthouse Christian Church, 29898 E. Pine St. Drummond Island, MI 49726, from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The Memorial Service will immediately start at 2:00 PM and a luncheon to follow at the Drummond Island Golf Course, 29901 E. Fairchild Ln. Drummond Island, MI 49726.
