Obituary For Beulah Mae Beacom

Beulah Mae (VanSloten) Beacom, age 92, died on September 19, 2023, at her home in Kinross, Michigan, with her family by her side. She was born on July 18, 1932, in Rudyard, Michigan, to parents Jake and Cora (DeWitt) VanSloten.

Beulah grew up in Rudyard with her parents and siblings. She met her first husband, William, after high school. He died young in a work accident leaving Beulah a young widow. She later met James Beacom and the two hit it off. They married and raised his four and her three children together. Beulah lived between Michigan and Florida for a number of years, spending the winters in Florida and the summers in her home state. She and James had owned and operated The Beacom Motel in Florida.

After retirement, Beulah enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved children and adored being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Always a creative and fun-loving woman, children flocked to her. In recent years, she had begun traveling with her daughter in their camper. Pulling a jeep, they traveled all over the states and made a lifetime of memories. During one eventful trip, they had a stowaway snake that decided to make a surprise appearance at the steering wheel. It was an unforgettable time, to say the least. Beulah lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew her.

Beulah is survived by her daughters, Brenda and Luanne; Sister, Wilma Decker; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Beulah is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Cora; husband, James Beacom; son, Bill Austhof; siblings, Floyd VanSloten, Dennis VanSloten, Vern VanSloten, Millie VanSloten, and Laura VanSloten.

The Memorial Service will be Saturday October 7, 2023 at 11:00am at Rudyard Christian Reformed Church, 17970 S. Tilson Rd. Rudyard, MI 49780, with Pastor John Kostelyk officiating. Final resting place is North Rudyard Cemetery in Rudyard, MI. Following the service there will be a luncheon at the Church.
