Obituary For Albert "Bert" Ross Crockett, Jr

Albert “Bert” Ross Crockett Jr., age 87, of Cedarville, Michigan, passed away on June 30, 2024. He was born on July 7, 1936, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Albert and Marguerite (Dupuy) Crockett.

Bert was a very kind and gentle soul. He started working at an early age at the Soo Texaco Oil Company. He built and owned an A&W Root Beer Stand in St. Ignace, Michigan in 1960. Bert managed the A&W while attending Michigan Technical College Soo branch earning his Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. After graduation he went to work for Consumers Energy in Jackson, Michigan, and was then transferred to the Electrical Division in Traverse City, Michigan. Subsequently, Bert became a supervisor in Gaylord. Each promotion moved him closer to his dream of living back in the UP.

Bert and his brother, Dave, purchased land on Island #8 in Cedarville in 1970, where the two built their retirement home. In 1991, Bert retired and quickly filled his time with many activities and became involved in the Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Radio Communication Watchman. However, Consumers Power needed his expertise and contracted him to document his procedures for the Peaker plants.

Bert had a very close bond with his brother Dave and Dave's family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering around, and fixing things. Bert, since early childhood, had a brilliance for looking at something and understanding how it worked and how to fix it. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

Bert is survived by his brother, Dave Crockett; nieces, Cynthia Selig, Becky Crockett, and Kathy(Dennis) Letang; nephews, Dave Crockett Jr., Joe Crockett(Darlene) and Robert Crockett; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marguerite Crockett; Sister-in-law, Mary Crockett; and Nephew, Daniel Crockett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bert's memory may be made to: Clark Township Ambulance at P.O. Box 367, Cedarville, MI 49719, Bethel Lutheran Church at 217 N. M-129 Cedarville, MI 49719, or St. Judes Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
