In a field of nine teams, both the girls and boys track and field teams came out on top at a rescheduled Boyne City Invitational. The girls team won with 123 points, followed by Harbor Springs with 89 and Traverse City St Francis with 87.5. The boys racked up 152.5 points over Charlevoix with 121 and Elk Rapids with 106. The top six athletes in each event scored points, contributing to the teams’ victories. Both teams have athletes that continue to set personal (PR) and seasonal (SR) records as well. Coach Scott Menard remarked “It was the first nice day that we actually had favorable conditions to participate in and the kids took advantage of it. We had a number of personal bests. The four relay teams all ran their best times also.”
Both teams were runners up in the first event, the 4×800 relay. Regan Sporte, Izzy McCord, Asia Jones and Stephanie Jones finished with a time of 11:26.36. Shea Armstrong, Chase Aldridge, Evan Huyck and Ian Southwell finished in 8:58.09. Annabelle Fazzari (16.99-PR) placed second in the girls 100m high hurdles. Brady Ditmyer (45’5”-PR) was runner up for the boys event. Johnny Osborn (18’2”-PR) won the boys seated shot put event. Ayla Menard (6’6”) has a sixth place finish for the girls pole vault. Jordyn Giffin (13’10-SR) and Isabeau Woodard (13’2.5”) placed fourth and fifth in the girls long jump. Walcher (18’6.5”) was runner up for the boys.
Coach Jim Martin continues to praise his athletes’ efforts. “Distance runners really shone brightly last night. We PR’d in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 by over 4 seconds. Eli Hills, Evan Huyck Caleb Klier, Gabe Litzner, Brady Ditmeyer, Isaac Niebuhr, Owen Rice and Javonte Bellamy all had a hand in at least 15 points or a PR or both. We had a few disappointments last night but other runners/throwers/jumpers more than picked up the slack as we continue our journey to Regionals and Finals. We had many more PR’s that our staff is really happy with.”
The teams will send athletes back downstate for another invitational on Thursday, this time in East Jordan.
