The Sault High girls and boys varsity track and field athletes were the Ram Scram champions in Harbor Springs this Saturday. Rescheduled due to forecasted unpleasant weather, both squads made their mark at Reynolds Field, outscoring their hosts to bring home some hardware. The Invitational offered mixed relays, comprised of two runners from each team, and the distance runners ran the 800m, 1600m and 3200m races in the opposite direction on the track. Girls head coach Scott Menard was pleased with the team’s effort. “Girls win was unexpected. We had less than half of our team there. We had excellent efforts with a lot of PR’s.”

Jim Martin, head coach of the boys team was thrilled with his athletes. “It was a great team effort. For the first time that I can recall we scored in all 17 events. In fact we scored 2 or more athletes in 15 of the 17 events. The ceiling on this team is still greatly unknown as, because of injuries we still have not come close to fielding a full team. The underclassmen really lifted the team scores with some eye popping results. We are still quite a young team, but we’re “good young”. We kind of knew going in that some people would really have to step up for us to have a good showing. That being said, just about every senior scored in the meet. Not to be overshadowed though, our juniors scored more points than any other group. Which brings us full circle to a total team effort. All you have to do is look at all the PR’s our team scored Saturday to say WOW, What a performance. And we can get better if we can get and stay healthy.”
Both squads will compete in Boyne City on Tuesday for another invitational meet.
