CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MICHIGAN At approximately 1:45 p.m. a trooper from the Michigan
State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post and emergency crews responded to a report of a
house fully engulfed in flames on W. Main Street near M-123 Highway in Trout Lake Township.
When the trooper arrived, the Trout Lake Fire Department was already on the scene, fighting
the fire. They were soon joined by fire departments from Whitefish, Hulbert, and Hendricks
Townships.
The home where the fire started was a total loss, but fortunately, all three occupants and their
two dogs were able to safely escape. Sadly, one cat was reported to have died in the fire.
The neighboring house also suffered damage from the fire, but thanks to the quick work of the
firefighters, it was not a total loss. In addition to the fire departments that responded, MSP was
assisted by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Straits Area EMS who was on-site in case
of injuries. No injuries were reported at this time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
