Shirley Genevieve Zagar, age 93, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on March 13, 2020 in St. Ignace. She was born on April 2, 1926 in St. Ignace, to Elmer and Clara Grondin.
Shirley grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from St. Ignace High School. After high school she worked as a clerk in retail stores in the area. She met, fell in love, and married Joseph Zagar and they made their home in St. Ignace on Goudreau Street and raised two sons, several dogs, and a few parakeets there. She remained living in that house until moving to long term care a few years ago.
Shirley loved to cook and bake. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband at the casino.
Shirley was a member of the St. Ignace Loyola Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her sons, William Zagar of Holly, Michigan, and Chris Zagar of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; and her sisters-in-law, Bonnie Grendin of Texas, and Irene Zagar of Hazel Park, Michigan.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Elmer Grondin; her husband, Joseph Zagar; her brothers, Lloyd Grondin, Vern Grondin, John Grondin, Raybo Grondin, Lee Grondin, Henry Grondin, and Chris Grondin; and her sisters, Darlene McVannell, Florence Sturt, and Mildred Grondin.
