Mervin “Merv” James Vanderstar, age 86, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at his home in Leonard, MI.

Merv was born on January 16, 1937, to James and Susie (Curtis) Vanderstar in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He graduated with the Brimley High School Class of 1955. On February 10, 1961, Merv married Myrna Davis at Brimley Baptist Church in Brimley, MI. Merv was a Dairy Farmer and was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association, and Farm Service Agency. He was a member and deacon of Brimley Baptist Church, a member of the Michigan Dairy Herd Improvement, and a part of the EUP Antique Equipment Association. He also was on the Kinross Board of Review.

Merv is survived by Myrna, his wife of 61 years; his five daughters: Wanda (Brian) Swett of Morrice, MI; Karen (Thomas) Rieman of Mount Vernon, OH; Glenda Grams of Mt. Vernon OH; Ruth (Joseph) Fazzari of Leonard, MI;

Amy (Vern Seymour) Westcomb of Munising, MI; He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Alanna, Cameron, Erin, Matthew, Melissa, Benjamin, Andy, Alyssa, Nikki, Emily, Sophie, Dominic, Mackenzie, Lucas, and Levi. Also surviving Merv are his eleven great-grandchildren: Brendan, Kamryn, Kaylee, Jaxon, Brantley, Malia, Harper, Hunter, Elena, Owen and Conrad.

Mervin is survived by his two sisters: Joyce Atkinson of Jenison, MI and Margaret (James) Booth Galesburg, Il.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 until 11:00 AM that same day. Burial will be at Kinross Lakeview Cemetery later this spring.
